You see them everywhere, silly little faces on all forms of social media that add some character to a post. I’m talking about Emojis! Faces crying with laughter to heart eyes; aliens and yes, even a smiling poop (okay, it can, and has been, argued that it’s actually chocolate ice cream and not poop!) And today we celebrate these cute little guys on World Emoji Day!
World Emoji Day has been unofficially celebrated since 2014, but did you know we’ve been using Emojis for way longer? Having originated on Japanese mobile phones in the late 90’s, Emoji’s have not only taken over but drastically evolved! From simple text smiley faces to actual graphical expressions and common objects, we’ve used Emoji’s to represent some of the craziest expressions.
#DYK that the most used Emoji of all time is the “laugh-cry” face? The second being the heart eyes! In fact, the top ten most used Emoji’s are all positive!
So, whether you hate them or not, Emoji’s do give people something to smile about!
